Police positive with a cylinder stop issue.

Hi--I'm looking for help with an old police positive. The cylinder stop works properly in double action mode. However when cocking in single action mode it retracts into the frame and does not raise up to engage the cylinder until the trigger is pulled. Is this likely to be caused by grime or is there a more serious issue? Any suggestions?

Cleaning and lubing is always a good first step with any problem. To assist with further diagnosis, you should check function and timing according to this thread Colt Revolver Timing Checks paying particular attention to the instant bolt pickup comments.

I would agree - dismantle, clean all, inspect, and Lube well...and see where things are then.

Often, these old Revolvers have not been cleaned since they were first assembled at Colt's...and old oxidized Lubes, grime, dusts and whatever gum things up.
