    Cleaning/Repair of MOP Grips/Stocks

I just picked up a Police Positive that ended up having real pearl grips. But they are quite dirty. They have some kind of brown crud on the inside edges. I was just wondering what could be used to clean this off?? I didn't want to put something on there that would dull the finish or use something to scrape it off and scratch them. They also have chip missing by the pin on the lower corner. Any suggestions on how to repair this ?? Thanks in advance to any and all help and/or comments.

A lot of old MOP grips have that "brown crud" on the inside, I believe it is rust from the gun frame. You can carefully scrap it off, or use steel wool, put some Kroil on first to soften it up.
You can make minor repairs to MOP with super glue gel, larger repairs can be made with a patch from a broken donor grip, epoxied in place and then sanded and buffed down to correct contour. I have repaired several in this way.
