Picked up a blued '82 6" Python w/ Pachmayrs at my local gun shop. It looks like it might have been a police trade-in, and then a "truck gun". I paid a fair price for it, considering it's got some dings and scuffs. After a good cleaning, most of the bluing is good, barrel and chambers are excellent, and mechanically it's tight. I bought it as a shooter and/or project revolver, and I've already ordered a Hogue one-piece Goncalo Alves stock with cap. Now I'm considering sending it off to Colt for a polish and bluing- probably $300+ round trip. Will Colt actually grind/polish the Python before bluing to remove the scuffs and dings, or is that additional? It's a shame that someone mistreated this fine revolver, and I hate to see it in this condition. I guess I'm debating on leaving it as is vs. having it redone. Opinions???

A re-finish includes removal of surface defects.
If the dents and dings are too deep some re-finishers charge extra for the extra effort, and if really too deep they may not be able to get them out at all without removing too much metal.
Colt will do everything possible to make the gun look factory new.
That's good to know, thanks. I talked with Colt Mfg. Customer Service...current cost to polish and reblue is $325 + $30 s&h, and allow 6 mos. Now it's time to make a decision.
Without pictures it's hard to say, but it sounds like thats what you would like to do -- So GO FOR IT !!! Then pictures of the finished product will be mandatory!!
