Caliber roll marking, right hand side plate, and serial number would seem to identify it as a New Army or New Navy, likely from later production around 1907 or so. Don't have my books handy.
just got in a Colt marked "Colt DA 38" on the barrel. the side plate comes off with 2 screws from the right side. never saw that and can't I.D. it for parts. the S/N is26897X the cyl lath is either missing a part or a different type. camera not here in shop or would try post pic. mill try to do so 2morrow. any info is welcome and appreciated. none of my reference books show a Cplt that has a righ sideplate.

I would venture to guess that the cylinder has two sets of notches? Does the cylinder turn to the left when you cock the revolver?
yes it turns left. I looked at the new army/navy in a book of exploded drawings and it seems to match up except this one has a4.3 inch barrel with no taper. did not see the resemblance in the pictures of the new army/navy. thanx for the info

yep, that would be it. I may take some pic's to show what a used up Colt looks like. Maybe not it could cause a lynch mob to be formed
