    Sick Mustang

I have a 90s model colt mustang 380 that is pristine in appearance and problematic in performance. HELP!!!! This little pony is about to get put out to pasture. It will seldom eject each of a 6 round blast with range rounds. And always performs flawlessly with self protection rounds. Why won't it just eject each time it goes boom?

What are you calling "range rounds"? If they are light loads, that may be the reason. Not enough energy to push the slide all the way back so that the case hits the ejector. The recoil spring and the slide are tuned for a certain amount of impulse from the bullet. On a short slide like the Mustang, there isnt much room for error. Lighter bullets or lighter poweder charges will not impart as much energy to the slide.

Thanks y2kdon for the response. My range load is Wal-Mart Federal 95grain FMJ... vs. Hornady Critical Defense 90 gr FTX. I failed to mention that the trigger doesn't reset/work every once in a while. I really don't know how to describe it other than I pull the trigger and it doesn't drop the hammer on the next try until I either give it a little more time or squeeze the trigger again. I like my little colt, but I just need some advice.

Dont know about the trigger problem, but did you try a different magazine for the ejection trouble? My pocketlite came w/2 mags (used). 1 gave ejection trouble, the other was flawless. I bought a new Colt magazine and it too worked flawlessly.

You could try some new springs from Wolff Springs - They have several to chose from.

I also solved all of my Mustang Plus II problems with new magazines. I think a lot of people carried those things and kept the mags full, and over time the springs just get tired. I ordered a new set of magazine springs from Wolff to prove my theory, but won't be going to the range until tomorrow to check out my old mags with new springs. Will keep you posted.

Well, just returned from the range, and everything is fine.

No, dandak, I did both. Bought 2 new mags, and replaced springs in the two faulty mags. All functioned properly. Problem solved.

So you just tried new springs in the mags but not new mags? Feed lips may be bad.

Thanks for the info guys. I am going to borrow a magazine from one of the men in my church and see what happens. Then I will make the decision as to new springs and/or new magazine.

I borrowed his mag, bought me a new one and was introduced to CLP. Cleaned it one more time with the CLP and took the original mag, the borrowed one and the new one. Everything worked flawlessly. I think we have it made. Thanks guys.
