    Colt 1991A1 extractor

Looking for another 1911 I picked up an excellent used 1991A1 (ORM) and noticed that the extractor is a casting. How do these cast extractors hold up? The pistol functions fine but I'm concerned about such a cheap part. For peace of mind I may just get a better quality extractor but would like any opinions here, to see what the consensus is.

Since new milled Colt extractors aren't very expensive, I personally would replace the cast version just on GP's.
A new extractor will need tuning and adjusting, but if you're handy you can do that yourself.

I suspect there were issues with these cast extractors because Colt discontinued them and went with machined versions.
Unless the gun is to be a defense gun you could just shoot it and see what happens. It might go for a life time with the cast part.

I agree and think I'll just replace it with a new milled one.

order one from brownell's or wilson combat. i'm looking for the exact same gun. may i ask what it cost, the new one i mention should be good to go. from those supplier's. do not get a cheap one from a supplier. go to www.brownels.com. ask for a 1911 catalog.
