I ran across a gun forum by accident the other day and started reading a thread on gun springs for the 1911 and found it superb and thought everyone could get a real education about recoil springs. It's a good read, take it with a grain of salt or believe the guy knows what he's talking a bout...choice is yours but it's most educational.

Those of us who own and shoot older ( or really old ) Automatics, probably best keep in mind that Recoil springs can or may become weaker over years of use, and, for the well being of the Pistol, a fresh Spring which is of original Factory spec, or which is suited to the Ammunition one intends, can be well worth doing.
