    1877 Colt hand wobble

I have this 1877 Lightning that I have been playing with, trying to get it to function consistantly. Symptom is that the cylinder doesn't consistantly rotate enough so that it engages the cylinder stop. It works better when the trigger is pulled slowly and with more solid pressure. but the improper rotation occurs when cycled quickly.
I noticed that the pivot point hole for the hand on the trigger is a bit wallowed out, so that there is a little side slop/wiggle in the hand at that pivot point.
I really don't want to enlarge the hole in the trigger and then fit a bigger pin in the hand, but I am at a loss how to approach the repair another way. I may see if I can find a pin larger that fits the trigger better, and fit that to the hand.
I did buy a replacement hand from Dixie, but it is totally useless as the pin is so over sized, there is no way to evenly reduce the diameter.
Any repair ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Well Guys, I'm back with a simple solution. After I posted my question, went to my shop to try and find a pin the correct, I hope, size. Found one @.099 which fit the hole a lot better. In my effort to drive the old pin out of the hand, a thought came to me, what if I just tapped the end of the existing pin with the hand against a steel block would that just fatten the existing pin sort of flattening and making it a little wider. Carefully tapped it a bit then tried it, fit really a lot better, tapped some more, notibly not as much slop, so I guess I will put it back together to see it that was the problem. At least I manged to change the geometry without screwing up the existing hand.

    regards,

Your warrentee is good for 40ft or 40sec whichever comes first. That is the nature of using a complex action in an object meant to take a beating everytime you use it.

It's still a metal jig saw buzzle

You still at it?? Great stuff though. I still have my Colt 1977 Thunderer sitting in the safe. After I saw your post I pulled her out and wiped her off and stuck her right back in. After 3 months, of spare time, spent finally getting her lined up, she still works on DA and SA. One small victory for mankind in an ongoing rage against the machine, when it comes to Mr. Mason's most infamous legacy regarding his design of the 1877 Colt. What ever prompted him to omit the cylinder notches on the exterior of the cylinder is still beyond me. I won't get into that complex array of small leaf and flat springs, with a sear, hand and cylinder stop that creates an action that shoots itself to pieces as flanman referred to, whenever it gets fired or tinkered with.

    But you gotta love them.
