    Cleaning Fire Blue

Had the opportunity to pick up a Police Positive .38 from 1909. Overall not in bad condition at all, bore and chambers very very nice, lock up nice and tight. Does have a very small rust spot here and there and the cylinder finish is abit rougher than the rest (kinda wonder why).
After I first wiped it down (was very dirty) I noticed that there was still very substantial fire blue on the screw heads, the sides of the trigger and the top surface of the hammer. Nice surprise there.
I've paid pretty darn close attention here on the Forum of ways to properly clean these older Colts but I can't seem to find a thread that specifically deals with the fire blue (no doubt here somewhere - just can't find). My understanding is this finish is fairly fragile and as there are a couple spots of beginning corrosion on the trigger and hammer I'd like to make sure I do it right.
Any suggestions, recommendations or referrals to threads already here would be appreciated.

For most blued metal, a good cleaner is to simply apply a coat of CLP Breakfree and let it soak for a day or so.
Any dirt will be lifted and rust will be softened so you can remove it by light scrubbing with a brass "toothbrush".
Any "dirt" left on the bluing isn't dirt if a cleaner/lube like CLP won't remove it.

Fire blue IS extremely delicate and any metal polish, no matter how fine will damage it.

Dfariswheel: Got it, thank you very much. It was an unexpected and nice surprize to have all that fire blue there, don't want to ruin it. As he hadn't cleaned it at all, I don't think the seller really knew the true condition or I wouldn't have got it for what I paid. CLP on it tomorrow for a couple days then we'll see how it turns out.

Just started on the cleaning of this new (to me) little revolver but the wife squeezed in to take photos for my files and this one shows the fire blued trigger pretty well. The top and back of the hammer is just as bright. Once the rest is all cleaned up and if it looks good enough I'll take better photos and post it up in the revolver section.
