Stripped Threads in Original Officers Stock

Finally figured out why the stocks on my newly-purchased 1920 2nd issue Officers 38 Special had some movement when I was gripping hard. Turns out the threads are stripped in the stock. I have some ideas on repairing the threads with Acraglas - but hesitate to do so without question.

Surely I am not the only person who has this problem, and it must have been fixed countless times before. I understand these are pretty valuable stocks. Does anyone have advice on their repair?

In the meantime I have removed them to prevent damage and installed a Hogue Monogrip for shooting duty.

    Thanks in advance.

I think you could carefully knock out the female escutcheon, and, replace it with a same era one, and, be in good shape then.

The danger with this of course, is that sometimes, the procedure may pull some fine splinters with it, so, supporting the surrounding Wood closely, can be a help in avoiding that unhappy accident.

Is the screw/thread stripped or is the nut turning in the wood?? I believe there might be thread in here discussing the stripped wood scenario.

    Thanks Oyeboten and Broknaxl

Female thread is stripped. The screw pushes through (past) the thread. I'll look for the thread.

    Yes...

For which, find an old damaged or otherwise bad COLT Stock or Stocks having the same era and size German Silver Escutcheons, and, supporting the area of Wood which surrounds the female one, carefully tap out the one from the 'Donor' Stock, carefully tap out the one from your Stock, and, carefully align the serrations or splines of the 'new' one when pressing it into your Stock, so they agree with the impressions in the wood from the stripped out one, and, all should be well then.

Tap very gently and carefully. A sharp blow when attempting to remove/reinstall the escutcheon can result in cracking and splintering the wood around the escutcheon. If you can push on the escutcheon with your pin, instead of tapping, to remove/reinstall the escutcheon, your chances of splintering the wood goes way down. Yes, of course I learned this the hard way.

    Gentlemen:

Upon closer inspection of the threads in the escutcheon (which really don't look that bad), it seems that the screw might be undersize and incorrect for this revolver.

Can anyone tell me the proper thread size for the screw so I can evaluate?

On the other hand..... On the left is my stock. On the right is the same year Officers stock (1920) from from an old post I found on this forum. Looks like might be some some differences. Anyone have comments on this?
