    Grips saftey INOP

Excuse the misspelled headline. Don't know how to change it. Picked this up at the Crossroads of the West gun show yesterday:

When I checked it out at the show I noticed the grip safety didn't work. Got a hundred bucks off. How do I fix it? Do I need to replace the grip safety? It's obviously been accurized, and must have had a trigger job because it's amazing. I'm just not sure whats causing the problem. If I pull the trigger without depressing the grip safety the trigger moves about 1/8" and the hammer falls, still holding the trigger, if I depress the grip safety the trigger will move through it's entire range.

Was also curious if it came from the factory with those grips. Never seen Pachmayres with Colt medallions. How about these sights? Any idea who makes them? The front has a thin horizontal yellow line under the yellow dot. I like them, wouldn't mind getting a couple more.

Sounds like someone "fit" the safety wrong and might need to replace it. The grips are factory. If you have experience open the weapon up and look at the three leaf spring to see if it is broken or deformed. I would replace it with a Clark four leaf spring.

Depending on how the grip safety is fitted, it mat be possible to fix it. Or maybe not. Hard to tell until you get inside to see what's wrong. If you're not sure how to do this, either find a local gunsmith to fix it, or get a copy of Kuhnhausen's shop manual for the 1911 before proceeding.

The first thing I did was replace the spring. Didn't help.

So you guys think that "tang" on the safety was filed too short? If I get a new Colt replacement, is it safe to assume it will be on the long side and require fitting?
