    Trigger return?

PP, S/N 209XXX, 1925?, 32 Police, old style main spring with spurs on each side for anchors. Trigger will not return reliably in single action or double action. I've scanned the Kuhnhausen book several times but I'm not seeing the problem clearly thru the view provided in the book. Someone with experience please guide me thru trouble shooting and possible in home correction.
    Thanks

It is just hard to tell off hand. What is the history? Well cleaned and lubed? The force for the trigger return is provided by the mainspring. Return requires there is no binding from gunk, wear or improper assembly. It could be the hand, the safety mechanism or the hammer rebound binding. The safety mechanism can be removed to see of that makes a difference. The hand shouldn't bind with the sideplate removed. Beyond that it is observation with guidance from Kuhnhausen.

I might add with regard to "history", if you removed the sideplate to clean, lube and inspect and did not ensure that the rebound lever arm was sitting on the cam on the inside of the hand such that the hand can be pressed in as far as it should be before reinstalling the sideplate, the hand will bind. That is just one common occurrence.

Thanks A1A, I have created the hand/sideplate interference in past lives, I finally recognize that as preventative, correct assembly procedure. I suspected the main spring but wasn't sure, the safety I will remove and test. I have another PP of same vintage that works correctly that I can take the MS from and use to test. I suspect Jack First will be a source for a main spring if I need one.
This old PP has a colorful but undocumented past, word of mouth, tales from mining days and colorful ladies on East Mercury St. in Butte Montana during the union battles in the copper mines of the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's of the 20th century.
I will further check out the mechanics. Thanks again!!

Indeed, the mainspring could be just a bit weak. Let us know what you discover.
