    Advice needed from the experts

Hi boys, Sold my Series 70 Gold Cup a while back. Went a few months and decided that I wanted another newer Colt, so I got a 1991 Series 80 with the '100 Years Service' on the right side of the slide. I have not shot it yet, but last night and had it and my old 1911A1 last night, playing with them and checking for differences. (This one is one of the 10,000 made for Argentina in the late twenties-early thirties.) Lots of subltle little differences. The old one has the short trigger and arched mainspring housing; the new one has the long (plastic) trigger and flat mainspring housing. I like the feel of both, and don't feel that I will change out either the trigger or mainspring housing. But what I will change is the grip safety. I could get the new one to bite me, just by cocking the hammer and rolling the gun in my hand. Today I have a nice purple bruise.

Here is the question: Can you boys recommend a nice extended grip safety, blued, that I can use with the original hammer? I do NOT like the ones that curl up on the ends like a ski jump, nor do I like Commander-style hammers. It is hard to tell what I need by looking at the ads in catalogs and on Ebay. I thought I would ask you folks, because you are the ones that know.

Thanking you in advance for your advice, and best regards,
    Jim

Seems most extended grip safeties are the up-curled types.

One I used to use is made by Jim Hoag. It's a wide and slightly extended grip safety that prevents any biting.
It's compatable with a standard hammer, and had to be altered to work with a Commander round hammer.
It has to be fitted by altering the frame tangs.

I think he's still in business:
