    SAA Ejector Rod question

May be a dumb question, but is the ejector rod supposed to be able to push through the cylinder if not in half cock? In half cock the cylinder moves freely and indexes so the rod can be pushed without restriction through the cylinder. With the hammer fully down, and the loading gate open, the ejector rod moves approx. 1/8" and stops. When looking at the cylinder through the loading gate, it is slightly offset from center. Is this a safety feature?? I want to make sure the timing isn't screwed up. It has not been shot yet and wanted to make sure there is not an issue. It's my newly acquired 3rd gen gun.

Not meant to be used with the hammer down.

Further explanation of pyshtrvr above -- The ejector stops when the cylinder holes don't line up with the ejector, the cylinder is the obstruction. Same thing when the loading gate is closed, holes lining up - because it meets an obstruction (the gate).
