Repairing or replacing front sight on Pre-70 NM

This was my Christmas this year. A 4-digit serial# Pre-70 National Match. Colt dates it to '59. Slide and frame are clean of pitting and are still tight. The barrel and bushing were replaced with a NM7791414 barrel. The hammer and thumb safety are not original. I've come up with replacement GCNM hammer and thumb safety. I'm guessing the chances of finding the correct barrel are equal to winning the powerball.

The front sight was either filed down or replaced with a smaller version. Here's a pic of what it should look like:

    Here's what mine looks like:

Which is a better way to go? Replace it or have a GS repair it?

There's really no way to "repair" it since to re-cut it to the original Patridge shape whould leave it looking way too small and odd looking.

Probably the best fix is to have a gunsmith WHO KNOWS HOW to replace the sight with a new factory type Gold Cup sight.
The keys are finding an original type narrow tenon NM sight and finding a gunsmith who understands the correct method of installing these bigger sights with the small tenon and getting it to stay put without resorting to silver solder or some other improper technique.

You might just contact Colt and ask them about sending in the bare slide and have them do it the right way.
