I got the blown out forcing cone of my 1907 Police Positive fixed

Colt Police Postive 32 S&W Long with blown out forcing cone barrel in the barrel vice 1-2-2012.jpgColt police postitive 1907 barell welded c 1-5-2012.jpgNew forcing cone fine after 500 foot pound load 85 gr Speer JHP 13 gr LIL'GUN 2.9 in 1-6-2011.jpg1907 Colt Police Positive 32 S&W long 6 in barrel with new forcing cone Randy welded to add on d.jpg

I made a collet of 1.5" Aluminium round stock for the barrel.
I took out the crane, put duck tape on the frame, and used a giant Crescent wrench as an action wrench.
Then I took the barrel to Randy Ketchum, because my TIG welding is terrible.
He put a piece of drill rod on the barrel and replaced the whole forcing cone.
I put the barrel in the lathe and trimmed off the TIG weld, cut an 11 degree forcing cone, and set the cylinder gap at ~ .003".

As an old machinist I say, "good Job!"

as an old gunsmith I wonder, 'why not shorten up the barrel?'

It kicks hard with the tougher forcing cone.

I put LIL'GUN in the case, 85 gr Speer .312" bullet at .1299", and put the round upside down in a 308 Lee Factory crimp die. I needed the crimp so the bullet will not pull out with recoil. The recoil is severe. I made an adapter to drop the cartridge the right depth into the die. I cut the neck off a 308 case to activate, from below in the press, the collet in the crimp die.
