You might want to talk to Brent Umberger over around Cambridge. Brent's a stock guy, not a gunsmith, but I'd be willing to bet he knows who the good gunsmiths are.

This isn't for a Colt, but I was hoping someone could point me toward a good gunsmith for some rifle work. I have a new Remington rolling block action and a new unthreaded barrel blank that I would like to have fitted and headspaced in 45-70. The gunsmith I had intended to use is no longer available because of serious health problems. Does anyone know of a good single shot man who is familiar with rolling blocks and capable of high quality work? Emphasis on high quality, and hopefully located in or near southern Ohio or Northern Kentucky.

Thanks, Buck. That name seems to ring a bell and if he is a member of the OGCA, I think I may have spoken with him a couple of times, and may already have his card.
FWIW, the RB is a different animal and I HIGHLY recommend gunsmith John King of Kila Montana. His number is 406-755-5352. He is a single shot expert and has rebarreled hundreds of RB's if not more. His reputation is stellar. You will not find ANYONE in the USA with a better reputation for 19th century style single shots.![]()
I keep reading that its hard to find a good Colt Revolver `smith ...... what's the training regime for this level of work?
Does Colt offer or sponsor any factory training?
Other than the Kunhausen manual and CD, and tips from certain members here on this forum, I dont think there is anything else available. I dont think Colt has any training for anyone who is not working for them.
They dont offer ANY comments on gunsmithing ,even if it is a generic question, unfortunately.
