That's where they usually break.
The hammer and trigger were made of sintered steel, and I suspect that some of the triggers were flawed in that area.
With the Mark V series, the hammer and trigger were changed to cast steel.
Note that ONLY a Mark III trigger will work, not a Mark V.
Triggers are hard to find and expensive. Here's a possible source, CALL for availability:

Other than that, all I can suggest is watching Ebay and the gun auction sites.
You might contact Colt and see if they can repair the gun by replacing the trigger. If they have a trigger, they will not sell it to you unless they install it.
