    Cylinder ring scratch prevention

First.....let me say THANK YOU to all who have replied to my posts. Your help is appreciated!!!How does a person prevent(if possible) the horrible cylinder scratch/ring on a Colt SAA? Does a person send it to a gunsmith to have the action worked on or.......what? Thanks for all your help. As you can see by my postings, I want to learn as much as possible on maintenance and preventionfor the Colt SAA. Thanks,

    Cohiba

When I cock my SAA (3rd gen), the bolt drops right in the groove so there is no cylinder mark. 1 tip however is dont let the hammer down from half cock so they say or the bolt may drop on the cylinder .cock the hammer all the way back before letting it down.

Never touch your Colts, Cohiba, and you will never get any "honest wear" on your Colts...but a gun one cannot touch is a pretty worthless object.

Shoot 'em, clean 'em, and don't worry about wear on your Colts.

Those early, worn-out looking, no-finish original Colt SAAs which may have cost $12 new are now worth 100, or more, times as much money now, worn than when they were brand new.

Good question that I often wondered about myself. I called Colt to check on a serial # and before we hung up the gentleman said, "oh by the way, don't forget to always fully cock the hammer back before letting it back down." Like Captan also stated. half cocking then putting then pulling the trigger and letting the hammer back down without fully cocking it apparently causes the cylinder line. It's also hard on the "innerds" as well as the outside of the SAA, so I am told. The line can be caused by one needing adjustment also I'm sure.
