hard to tell what was going on?? Especially when it can't be duplicated. Did the gunsmith use the same .38s you were using?? Where the ones you had reloads?? Maybe someone else will come along with some insight.
My name is Andrew and I am new to this forum. I only own one colt in my collection, and I love it. A 4" Nickel Colt Trooper Mk III. Took it to the range today and shot 3 cylinders of 357 magnum. When I shot my last cylinder I ejected the 6 rounds and proceeded to load some 38's in the cylinder. They were a little hard to fit in the cylinder, i figured they had been sooted up from the previous few cylinders. I tried to close the cylinder with the 6 38's and it would not close. I finally got it to close and when it did the cylinder would not lock up! it would just spin freely! so I opened up the cylinder and reclosed it and it locked up again but when I went to pull the trigger the hammer would just go halfway back and freeze. I couldn't cock it into SA mode either! I packed up and went to see the gunsmith in the shoot straight store. He took it back out of the case and it worked like a top! everything was fine! He took a few 38's and loaded them and went into the range and the gun worked like a top. I am really confused. He said that a piece of carbon could have gotten stuck in somewhere and caused the malfunction. I hope this doesnt happen again.

gunsmith used some super X 158 grain 38's. I was shooting 125 Grn remington jsp's and then I loaded some 110 Grn hornady FTX 38's in when the incident occured.
Here's a link to another guy that was having Trooper problems. It may or may not be the same.
Making my new MKIII Trooper reliable and ready for the range.
