    Plastics Gurus

    First, this tread is related to my tread over on the Semiauto Pistols form about "Sweetheart" Grips. Second, to the best of my knowledge plastic is plastic. I do know that the original World War Two "Sweetheart" grips were made of Plexiglas/Lucite (registered the brand names). Now I have a coffee cup made of Lexan (another registered the brand name) which I have been told is different from Plexiglas/Lucite but which looks like it would be suitable material to make a set of "Sweetheart" grips. So, plastic experts is one plastic better suit for making "Sweetheart" grips? I have a source where I can get either Lexan or Plexiglas.

    The physical advantages of LEXAN resin begin with its strength and extend to its resistance to the elements of:

    * Heat (up to 212°F/100°C)
    * Cold (down to -40°F/-40°C)
    * Water
    * Weather
    * Ultraviolet light
    * Flame (Underwriters Laboratories UL 94V-0 listed)

    It's pretty much shatterproof in it's pure form, but when it's molded and cut, and when its structure is compromised, it is possible to crack, and even in extremes, shatter.

    Lexan and Plexiglass are pretty much the same thing. In the case of crafting drips from it i dont see a problem with making them from either. But a forewarning, Acrylics will cloud up, haze, and crack when some solvents are applied. if you put rubbing alchohol on it, it will turn into a spiderweb of cracks.
