Stupid Is as Stupid Does: Police arrested a 64-year-old man accused of stealing a rare, antique gun after he was spotted trying to sell it on a television show. Wheat Ridge Police say they arrested Wylie Gene Newton of Erie for allegedly stealing the gun from a private museum in New Mexico in December. The gun is a Colt Dragoon black powder revolver that dates back to the 1800s. It's reportedly valued at $20,000. Police say Newton tried to sell the gun on a reality TV show called "American Guns," which is filmed at a Wheat Ridge gun shop. A viewer who knew about the investigation let authorities know about Newton after he watched the episode, which aired in December. The man on the show went by "Wylie" and took two black-powder revolvers to sell at the shop. Authorities in New Mexico contacted the police in Colorado. On May 10, undercover detectives met with Newton and offered to buy the stolen gun. He was arrested and police recovered the stolen revolver. He is being held in the Jefferson County Detention Center pending extradition.
My catalogs going back to 1950 and 52 show the hammer shroud but I don't think any mention is made of it being boxed.

I Used to be a superintendant for a sand and gravel company and have been all over the rocky mountains. At one of our pits in north east Colorado I found a HUGE bone in our hi wall that we were feeding into the plant. it was 35 feet down from old groundlevel. these are old sand bar fingers from ice age run off. The bone is at least 2 feet long and weighs 15 lbs or so. I took it to the museum of natural history in Denver, I have family that works there, one of the scientists said it is a juvinile femur of a Gomphotherium and is 60,000 yrs old. It is related to the mamoth, looks like one....just a shorter trunk and four large tusks instead of two.

Anyway I was wondering could I sell it on GB? I have poked around the net and found equivalent mamoth bones go for $200-$400. I NEVER saw another Gumptherium bone. It would look awsome on a mantel or a wall. I just want to turn it into gun money. What do you think?

I am a member of both the Colt and the S&W forums, I noticed that there are significantly more thread/posts/members on the S&W forum than on the Colt forum and was wondering why.
To me Colt is better know to non-gun people, especially when talking the Old West, while to me at the same time Colt and S&W are synonymous with quality, Colt seems to hold its value better than a Smith (due to it's name recognition?)

Are there just less people interested in talking Colt? :bang_wall:

the Smith forum has 173,000 threads with 1.7 million posts and 96,800 members (10,000 active members)

I was just wondering since I love both Smiths and Colt's and have a large collection of Boston Police guns about equally divided between Colt and Smith ;)

Does anyone care to venture their thoughts as to the value of an opened, but full (12 cartridges), box of original Frankford Arsenal Colt's Revolver .45 cal. inside primed cartridges. These were made for the Colt SAA Cavalry model revolver for several months in 1873-1874 until they were replaced with the shorter Colt Revolver Ball cartiridges which would also work in the Schofield revolver.

I saw a box, opened but reglued shut, that sold in 2007 at Cowen Auction for almost $750 + buyer's premium, which seems a little high. Any thoughts?

With national news coverage I wouldn't be surprised if the grounds keeper and the foreman get reinstated. But, they never should have been fired.
Why, oh why, are there so many pinheads in positions of authority?
