    H Heiser Holster

    Hello,
I have a Colt Python with 6" barrels. I have found a few H Heiser holsters that look very nice at Aubrey's. They describe their holsters in terms of S&W more often than not. The Python is more like a S&W L frame I think but, at Aubrey's, the holsters are for a S&W K frame or an N frame. Which should I choose?

    Only a L frame will work 581,586,681,686 A N will be sloppy.

I must not have made myself clear. The holsters are described as being for Smith and Wesson guns, either K frame guns or N frame guns. I take it if I had to choose between the two for an L framed Colt I should get the smaller holster (which is said to be for a S&W K frame gun) as leather will stretch. I have found no holsters described as being for an L frame S&W. None.

OK guys, thanks very much. No, I'm not interested in a new holster. I'll figure it out myself.

JimP, I was in Hawaii on R&R from Viet Nam in 1967 and wanted a new holster and belt for my 4" Python. So I took the advice of a gun shop owner and bought a Bianchi rig for an N frame S&W. When I got back to VN the holster was a little loose on the Python. It was serviceable but "not quite right".I have never tried to fit a K frame holster to the old war horse but I did get a proper holster for her when I got home. I would try to wait for a dedicated Python holster to come up for sale if I were you.Best of luck and if you change you mind about getting something new I highly recommend El Paso Saddlery. They make high quality gear and they have designs that look "vintage". Nick

I found out that George Lawrence 502 will fit a Python with 6" barrels. Still don't know about a Heiser. I will check out El Paso Saddlery.

I believe that HH Hesier went out of business about 1955. I have several of their holsters, and the newest one that I have is for a 2" D frame Colt with hammer shroud. My dad bought it in the early 50's when he joined the BN (Bureau of Narcotics, later the BNDD, Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs and finally DEA.)
So if they ever made any for the Python, I think the number would have been very few. I would see if I could find someone with a copy of the 1954 or 1955 catalog and see if they have one listed. I do know that he would make custom holsters as well as the cataloged items.

I was wondering if they made something that a Python would fit in, not one that was made specifically for a Python.
I went to El Passo Saddlery website. Well shut my mouth! Wow!

There are a "world supply" of Python type holsters out there. L Frames fit fine. I have a Bianchi5B for a Python 6" but it is a lefty and being used. Not quite sure what you want? An old cheap holster, an old expensive holster or a new cheap holster or a new expensive holster.

If I wanted a nice holster for a great revolver I would have one made for it by a reputable maker, then wear it with pride.
