I'll start it off for you.
Geesh, guess I didn't know what I had in the back in the gun cabinet. Drug out an old pair of Colt Handcuffs that was handed down to me by a retired Atlanta Police Captain and thought I'd put them on fleabay. Trying to feed a gun buying addiction. Less than two hours listed and all kinds of people emailing me wanting me to end the auction and sell the pair to them. What pandora box did I open.
When I started into law enforcement in 77, this retired captain that had moved to the beach had given me these cuffs and a Model 36 Smith. Kept them both all these years.
I'll start it off for you.
Elliott Marston to Matthew Quigley: I seem to remember you're not too familiar with Colonel Colt's revolver, so this will be your first lesson.
Matthew Quigley to Marston, after beating him and his two henchmen to the draw: I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use it.
Quigley Down Under 1990
Must be rare. I almost 4 decades of LE time I never saw a pair of Colts in service. Always S&Ws and Peerless.
I never even knew they existed until another post about a year ago. Good for you on the auction.
>wanting me to end the auction and sell the pair to them<
Don't you just hate it when people try to cheat the system.
It happens more than you might think.
It's not fair to others when this is done.
These was the only set I've ever seen in real life and several guys way back tried to talk me out of them. I carried these but then we had department issued peerless that we kept stacked up on the spotlight handle. Working in a tourist town, we would go through spells of arresting large groups of unruly teenagers. So we had aux officers transporting prisioners and I was always worried about those Colts getting lost in the mix. So when I used them I would put an aux officer to task with keeping up with that pair and making sure they found their way home.
I'd love to find a pair for a display I've been thinking about. I saw a few pairs back in the day but never picked up a pair. Now I'm regretting it. Saw a pair at the all colt show a couple of years ago but didn't buy them. Damn!
Detectives, and Cobras, and Agents
Colt handcuffs are very uncommon. I have a pair I bought years ago on eBay. When they show up on eBay these days, they usually bring several hundred dollars, depending on their condition and box, etc..
Geee, $153 so far in the first day of bidding with 8 days to go. This is going to get interesting. And one person wanted me to end the auction and they would give me $60.
Does anyone have a picture of Colt handcuffs?
A co-worker had a pair in the early 80s, they were very smooth & if I'd ever seen a set for sale I would have bought 'em.
He was quite fond of his, till the jail had to cut them off a prisoner with bolt cutters one night when he temporarily mislaid his key.
