I've seen them before and the prices were similar to what you cited above. I've never handled one, though, and don't really know much more about them than what you've already posted. My Google-Fu turned this up:

German made, EXPENSIVE, good quality. I had one in my hand yesterday at Williams Gun Site Company in Davidson, Michigan. Price tag for the used gun was about $2500.

They make really odd looking automatics too. The prices on those I think are between 5000-10,000
Gun Test magazine tore one apart. For some silly reason they though a gun that cost several thousands of dollars shouldn't jam

Back in the 70s these were in the gun catalogs with outrageous high retail $$. Reputed to be high quality, of course. No real shooters ever had them though, as they were marketed toward the rich. At those prices, not many were sitting aruond on dealers shelves and most folks dropping that kind of cabbage on a wheelgun would kind of like to see it first....so not many sold or around today.
Other than the fact they they were well made, I do not know of any feature to the revolver that would render it superior in design or function to a S&W or a Colt. I doubt it shot any better either. Likely just an overpriced 357 for those who wanted a designer label.
I believe Charles Bronson used one in the movie "St Ives".
