Second episode down. Slightly more interesting with a British military sidearm and a few firearms that were made by manufacturers who aren't Winchester. Still not a single Colt.
I finally had the chance to watch the first episode of Guns & Gold. This show has been hyped almost everywhere I turn in the past month as "Pawn Stars meets Antique Road Show" for the firearms crowd.
Well, it could have been more appropriately named "Some old Winchesters and a guy with four gold coins". The show featured about five firearms. All were Winchesters. All were long guns. None had 'good stories', but were almost uniformly "Yeah, my father-in-law had this rifle in his closet." type tales of utter lameness.
This could have been forgiven if it was some sort of a focus on Winchesters episode or something, but it wasn't. It was the series premier. It could have been forgiven if it took place at some small-time gun show in the boonies, but it didn't. It was at Wanemacher's in Tulsa, which claims to be the world's largest gun show. And as for the gold portion of the show? Well, they had one guy sit down with four gold coins in a plastic carrying case. The appraiser ended up telling him they were really nice and worth more in melt value than in collectibility.
What a thrill!
Overall it was a total disappointment after all of the publicity. I'll probably give it another episode or two, but if the best they can come up with at Wanemacher's is a few old Winchesters and not a SINGLE Colt? I'm done.
