A friend in Texas sent me the following link via email. Kinda nice to see all the old western stars again...along with the look at their guns and holster rigs. Hope it works for you: Those Old Westerns
Thanks for posting this, Fort -- it was very enjoyable . . .
FWIW, it has been rumored that Howard Hughes, in his early years, befriended a genuine western outlaw, changed his name and made him a western "idol" . . .
really enjoyed ,,,, txs
Thank you sir,
I enjoyed this with my morning coffee. I still watch some of these westerns today.
Kind of a trip down memory lane for me. A Historical Treasure that covers the Western Landscape. As a kid I started (mid 1930s) with Tom Mix and Hoot Gibson, then Ken Maynard, Tim McCoy, Bob Steele (my then favorite), later Wm. Boyd, Autry, Roger, etc. Bob Steele is one who continued in western support roles into his old age.
There were a about ten, like the above, who did almost nothing but Westerns in the early days, then some who did a lot of westerns as well as other films and a huge number who did only one or two. TV Westerns are a subject in itself.
Toward the end I was interested in a lot bit-players seen often most westerns that I never knew their names till now.
Very neat! I recently bought an M3 style 1911 shoulder holster from the estate of John Hart, who played The Lone Ranger for a while. He died a few years ago and his widow, through an agent, has been selling off his personal collection of gun magazines, books (gun books and western stories), holsters, etc. It's a neat old holster that, from the looks of it, was probably either field-made or a movie prop. Thanks for posting.
