Can you post a couple of pics?? I'd be interested in seeing what your working with. Then a lot of guys may have some suggestions/solutions. It's amazing the knowledge that is present on this forum.

Don Wilkerson, in his book on Frontier Scouts ("Colt Scouts, Peacemakers and New Frontiers in .22 Caliber", Walsworth Publishing, 1993) states on page 89 that the material Colt used for the nickel Scouts was called Zamac 3, also known as Alloy AG40A. This is an alloy of zinc and aluminum. This material was also used in construction of the '62 "P" numbered Scouts.
I've never seen a frame on a K nickel Scout or a P '62 Scout that was actually corroded. I've seen lots of them with the finish worn off, but not corrosion.

well after a trip to my gunshop to see my purchase...i was shocked to see that many spots on this Zamac Frame has corroded from the inside out in at least 5 maybe 6 spots...should have taken some more pics..area around serial number was so badly corroded...when i gently tried to brush it ..material was very brittle and flakey...was able to get one more number visible...has anyone ever seen a Colt do anything like this...most corrosion was on the edges..not on the flat spots...

It almost looks like some kind of chemical reaction. Kind of like an electrolisses reaction. Zinc bars in a salt water boat come to mind. I've never seen this on a firearm.
