Well said sir, Happy New Year to you!!!
Welcome to my world…Why am I here? Some of asked this question. I prefer not to be all over the World Wide Web interacting with people who I don’t know and may have a different agenda than I. (i.e. Facebook).
Having said that, since my Government and its “Czars” has labeled me and my associates as “Terrorist”, (their words not mine) I feel I have something to say who I choose to associate with. (Apparently I like Firearms)
How many of you have seen this or words similar: “I am a Veteran, who during my Active, Retired, and Reserve time-has at one or more times in my life wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America”, for an amount of “up to and including my life.” This is true Honor and Courage, and there are way too many people in this Country who no longer understand those things.”
In 1966 I skipped a grade in high school to volunteer for a special program with the United States Navy. I am not the only one, many of you have served or know a loved one or friend that has served or is currently serving in our Armed Services.
This was the same check I wrote to my communities in which I served as a Peace Officer, Deputy Sheriff and Volunteer Fireman. That along with an oath which I still honor and obey today with every ounce of my free will and allegiance; and with the same duty bound perseverance I give to Jesus Christ.
How things change; the Government didn’t care about all the red tape when I volunteered. Of course there was the routine 10 page application, no vacant spaces or lines, but none of the bureaucratic garbage that has inundated our system today.
Some people, I really don’t care who or how many, may disagree with my thoughts. Least of my worries, with the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Reid et al, are those who have targeted the very freedom that I and others have fought, sacrificed or supported in many ways, in hopes of destroying the very God given principles held dear by the most of us, if not all of us.
2012 Holds the promise that the wrongs can be corrected, the corrupted can be held to answer, the criminals will stand trial before their peers……I’m not holding my breath, because I understand that most things are out of my control. Those things that I can control I have a 50/50 chance of screwing them up given enough incorrect or insufficient information to base an intelligent response and course of action.
We won’t get out of this life alive; at least in the material sense. But since I can’t always turn the other cheek, I can at least break the monotony of the “Ills of our Society” with a little levity. I like many of you, have seen or experienced way to much hate, death, destruction, unsupported victims and guilty perpetrators go free.
One can be prepared, vigilant and take all the necessary precautions, plan for disaster and train for surviving these holocausts. We can Monday morning quarterback the good, bad and ugly, and criticize others for failing. Just remember this little phrase;
“When you’re up to your tail in alligators, it’s a little hard to remember that you are there to drain the swamp.”
HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Thank you, not only for your service, but for these words above. Complacency of the masses and overregulation BY the government have trampled the way of life us "old-timers" remember. I too wrote this check as did my best friend. His was cashed 1/29/69.

Well I totally agree and would like to add a quote from Charleton Heston:
"from my cold dead hands"
Happy 2012

Kid, I've never met you but feel I know you. When you put fingers to the keyboard, the things you write ring soooooo true in many ways. I just want to let you know I appreciate knowing you on the forum. BTW I also am one of those guys who's parents had to sign for me to go into the Air Force at age 17 and I stayed with it for a career. Once you get used to being "Gov't Property" it ain't bad. Your words ring so clear to my way of thinking. And a Very Happy New Year to you and yours.
Willie
Happy New Year, Mike.
This is well written and thought out.
Kid, thanks for putting your thoughts on electronic paper. Your words ring true. I too wrote that check and am proud to have done so. My oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic" still rings in my ears and tugs at my heart as if it was only yesterday. Although in my case it was many, many years ago. Regardless of years, I still hold myself to that oath and will to the end.
What kind of Legacy will you leave?

Amen brother. And really, I feel a kinship here like a brother, a brother in arms if you will. I, too, entered a special program but in 1967. I actually volunteered for the draft. The US Army had a special deal that year. I'm so glad to hear people tell our military personnel, "Thank you for your service." And I really appreciate hearing it when it comes to me, however late it may be in coming. It sure wasn't that way during the Vietnam era.
I haven't been on all of the internet sites either but I monitor a huge board dedicated to a totally different kind of hobby and have experienced other sites where everything IS political, vitriolic and, sometimes hateful. I chalk it up, in part, to the veil of secrecy that the net has become. But we here, despite using screen names, have interacted through a love and passion for firearms in general and, Colts in particular. I find myself chomping at the bit to get on this site to learn, laugh and read terrific stories such as yours and I believe it makes me a better man. Thanks Kid.
Happy New Year to All of You and may 2012 be the best!!

Kid,
God bless and keep you brother. As for the rest of us who love God, and Country, and believe in the right to keep and bear arms, I say "Never let the bast@@ds wear you down". I quote one of our founding fathers "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold, is for people of good conscious to remain silent". Thomas Jefferson. Peace , and God bless all of us in this New Year.
