Great information Buckspen. Thank you for researching it. I guess it would have been nice for Colt to let folks know this?!?
It makes me wonder what other 'information' might be available if one were to ask.
There were some questions lately in a thread about a couple of Archive letters on Pythons which were obtained and posted by a member. The letters showed "date of manufacture" as well as "date of shipment". I'd never seen this notation before (and I have a lot of Archive letters), so I asked Bev Haynes at Colt about it.
Here is her reply:
"We have some collectors that request a date of manufacture to be included with their information. Craig Blancett was the one who really started this..I remember that he always wanted this piece of information included in his letters. We do this upon request..but remember, a date of manufacture is not always available. It depends on the form of record keeping that was being done at that time."
So I guess this is something that a person ordering a letter can request.

Good to know - I will be ordering a letter later this month and would not have thought to ask for both pieces of information - thanks for the tip.
Yes Sir! Thanx and a hat tip to Buckspen for this info. I, too, plan to obtain an Archive Letter on my Officer's ACP, and I'd like to know every single thing there is to know about this pistol. I've owned it for 20 years now and know from a phone call to Colt's Mfg. that it was built in 1990. The gentleman read off to me the data he had for my pistol, which matched verbatim the info on the pistol itself and the original box, too. When I asked him what else he could tell me about it, he said that was everything there was. Now, after reading these postings I can only wonder. Please, DO keep us all informed if any new info surfaces. Thanx!

Great information. Thank you Buckspen. I am planning to submit my first Colt letter, for the 1941 square butt DS I recently bought. I am expecting and hoping it letters to the US govt![]()
Sure wish I had that info on several of my letters. I'll make that a request on all future applications. Thanks SO much for passing this one!!

No reflection on Buckspen, but this information has been provided before starting with a Wbray1966 letter.
