I would say, minimum $1200 as high as $1500, to the right collector.

Are you saying you have the whole box and papers, or just the styrofoam insert?
hi armyphotog. sorry for the late reply. just the styro insert. to me it looks like a box bottom and top cover . thanks craig if i remember right this is how i bought it.
Pictures would help, but it sounds like your missing the outer cardboard sleeve that goes over the styrofoam "box". Condition would count a lot also. I'd say $800.00 to $1,200.00 in my opinion.

For a series 80 gun - if you're saying 'mint' condition as in 'as new' or 'unfired' you are close to the $1200 mark max, especially with the partial box. (Collectors want it all for top money..) If it has some rounds down the tube - closer to the $800 mark, with the partial box.
Note: Considering the next 2 posts relating to this being a pre-80 Commander (no such thing as a series 70 Commander - as they never had the collet bushing) - I still think $1200 is close to top money for it not being in new condition w/box & all papers.. This has been my experience on 1911 forums within the past year...

"For a series 80 gun "
I have a 1982 Combat Commander, and is is "Pre 80 series." I do not think Colt changed over to 80 series on Combat Commanders until late 1983 or 1984.
Does anyone know for sure the date of change?
