The E series Smith is a good 1911. I'll probably end up with one of those sometime in the future. But I agree with you about the 100th S&W. My lgs saved one for me. It wasn't anything more than S&W trying to cash in on the 100th craze. Nothing special. l

    It seems ridiculous.

Ford might as well offer their version of a GMC Truck, and call it a "100th Anniversary GMC, Ford."

We live in an era of absurdity, and, worse.

I would have thought that S&W could have simply wished to begin making good and honest Revolvers once again, where, all the 'Anniversaries' and homages anyone could want, would be possible with out need of ridiculous contradiction.

They could, for example, re-introduce the original ( or the improved Hammer Block version, of the ) 2nd Model Hand Ejector, in .44 Special, .44-40, .45 ACP and .45 ( Colt, Lol...) and do it right, and offer it in a variety of Barrel Lengths, and, it would be honest and respectible and many people would love to buy them.

i agree that smith has zero justification for making an anniversary 1911 except for a reason to cash in, it's all about the money.

Didn't Kimber and some other makers come out with a 100 year of the 1911 edition as well?

Kimber, Colt, Browning, Cylinder and Slide, Les Baer, Wilson and a few more. I ordered a Cylinder and Slide USMC model. It is a close copy of the very first 1911's to be produced, the one that started it all. The C&S version will be finished better than the originals and have close, but not exact roll marks. And there never was a USMC version in the original production run. It should be delivered in year or so. Nice weather we're having in Spokane, eh?

It doesn't bother me that S&W made an anniversary model, not that I would buy one. I don't blame them for trying to make money; I like making money.

Kimber, Colt, Browning, Cylinder and Slide, Les Baer, Wilson and a few more.
Ed Brown made a nice looking one.

I ordered a Cylinder and Slide USMC model.
    That's a 1911A1?

I ordered a Colt (Anniversary) 01911ANVIII 01918 (it's still not in ). I had to pay my LGS up-front for it (but got a discount to MSRP).

The Colt ANV is based on the 1918 WW1 "Black Army" (the bluing is an almost black finish) pistol. I can't remember the last time they made a "new" 1918? That predates the M1911A1, the pre-70, the 70, the 80, and the dozens of recent changes. It has the Rampant Colt rollmark on the slide and frame (or receiver, under the grip). It has the military lanyard loop, the long solid-steel trigger, military sights, a spur hammer, an old style grip safety, and the "old" type U.S. Army Ordnance inspector approval stamp. The left and right sides of the slide have the "reproduced' 1918 rollmarks (including the "United States Property").

I plan on shooting a bunch of rounds through it.

The only appeal I see in the S&W 100th anniversary edition is that you can actually buy one, unlike the Colt 100th anniversary ANVIII, which don't seem to have been made in 2011.

The only legitimate anniversary Model of 1911 would be a Colt, all of the others are only commemoratives.

The Cylinder & Slide is a faithfull 1911 clone, and they have one rollmarked USMC.

If the ANV III is the entry level one I've seen a couple. I would have bought one, but it was gone when I stopped at that shop.
