Guns of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

I went to see Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with my wife this week and was pleasantly surprised by all of the historic firearms in this movie. The highlight of the movie for me was when the bad guys tried to gun down Sherlock and Watson with a Maxim MG. If you haven't checked this movie out yet I would recommend it whether you see it now or later on DVD.

Thanks for this! We have plans to see it. We enjoyed the action in the first one but I have trouble separating it from who I consider the quintessential Sherlock Holmes - the late Jeremy Britt. I swear they followed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original book as a script. Filmed entirely in Brittain, it is wonderful. Still, these latest two promise excitement!

    Sounds like fun...

Love those 'Bull Dogs'...and all the rest of the Guns of course are really neat also!

The Broomhandle Mauser is a faux pas though, a choice which is hard to understand in this context, for a story set in 1892.

That's the late Jeremy Brett and yes, those episodes from the BBC were terrific. A true and faithful representation of Sherlock Holmes. I haven't seen the new Robert Downey Jr. versions as just watching the commercials and previews make me cringe. Perhaps if I get into the mindset that it's some other guys named Holmes and Watson....

I figure the Broomhandle was just too sexy for the filmakers to resist. They couldn't help themselves. If they gave it any thought (at all) they probably figured (correctly) that most people have no idea when Mauser brought out the C96. Also it is a pistol that just screams to be in a Sherlock Holmes production.

I saw the movie yesterday but as much as I wanted to like it I couldn't. In far too many places the movie is there only to support the special effects, rather than the other way around.

Some cool guns, though, yes. My son liked the Webley that Sherlock took from a bad guy early on, but the Broomhandles were jarringly out of place. (Still, it kind of made you lick your lips to see CRATES full of factory new ones.)

Sherlock Holmes solved crimes with his mind, not a gun. In fact when one was needed, he asked Watson to bring his service revolver. These may be fun movies but they are not about Sherlock Holmes and wont be getting my $$. Okay Rant Off

I saw the movie a couple weeks ago and liked it. I did mention to my friend after leaving that I was probably the only person in the theater who was bothered by the fact that the movie takes place in 1891 and the Mauser broomhandle didn't come into production until 1896.
