And I thought I was losing my mind.![]()
Well today I was rearrange the gunsmithing area and opened up a rifle carry case thinking either the Marlin 336 in need of stock repair or the Winchester 1894 in need of cleaning, rust scraping and stock work was in it. Both of these guns were purchased early last year with the goal of giving me a a couple of winter projects and since both were dirt cheap why not. Only catch was the wife could not find out about them as they were purchased without her permission.
When I unzipped the case I found a Winchester 1894 in the case with a yellow sticky on it that said 1894 manufactured 1899. It has been used but well cared for. Completely forgot I had also bought that one. After several hours of memory searching and rebooting I remembered I snuck it into the house last spring telling myself I would give it to my wife for Christmas to go along with a similar Marlin 1893 I gave her last year.
To quote Gomer Pyle "SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE"
Now I have to hope I remember to give it to her for our anniversary sometime this spring.

My wife keeps telling me that when I hide things from other people all I am really doing is hiding it from myself...lol

Uh, uh, uh......... flanman, this sounds so familiar. I know nothing of the Marlin 1893, but I do own a Winchester Model 1894 in .30-30 caliber. This is a beautiful weapon, even tho I know it does not have the value of the pre-1964(?) models. I bought this rifle new in 1974 for a whopping $96.00. It may not be the most collectible, but we just love it. My own son, an Army paratrooper, says it kicks him really good as compared to the M-4 carbine. He wants to buy an M-1 Garand, like his grandfather carried in WWII. I told him to stand by if he thinks the '94 kicks! Do treat the '94 as tenderly as you would your little wifey!

This happens to me every so often, while I'm digging around in the back of a safe or looking behind doors. It's kind of like Christmas when you "discover" a gun! True story: At least twice in the last 5 years, I have "found" a Browning High Grade '86 .45-70 that for some reason I keep forgetting I own, even though it's been in the back of the same safe for years! Mabey I should give it to someone who won't "forget" about it!
I wish I had so many guns I could forget one.I could dream can't I? All the best and God Bless
Yeah, I've been there!! Or I do remember that I have something, but just can't remember where I put the d@#* thing!! Oh look a chicken !!![]()

I once found a bill of sale dated several years prior for the purchase of a S&W Model 10 revolver that I could not for the life of me remember ever owning. Had no clue where it was until several months later, when I found another bill of sale indicating I had traded it away shortly after acquiring it.

Oh, man, you are worse than me. I tend to forget things, but this is amazing.![]()
Something I did at least once, was to to go to the outdoor Flea Market on Saturday, after working sixty or seventy hours during the week...
I'd find a heavy item I wanted, pay for it, tell the seller I would pick it up on my way out ( so as not to have to carry it aroun as I made my way through the whole thing,) and, then...sometime later, like say, Sunday night, I'd remember about the item...
Ooooops...
Lol...
Just the opposite in it's way though, from the question here...but, still counts I think!
