If you had an extra $1000

I may have an extra $1000 to spend on a Colt. If you had an extra $1000 (for investment purposes) what would you buy? I know, I am asking investment advice from people I dont know over the internet, but I dont care; this is fun.

I am really interested in Pythons, as I dont own any, but I bet a grand aint going to get me one...thoughts?

I already own a 1903 and several other colts under $1000, but I do not have one single colt DA

    Thanks

Vacation, the Colt Detective Specials, Cobras and Agents are all excellent guns, which are rapidly escalating in price. If you look diligently, you can still purchase a high condition of each of those for around $500. Your $500 offers may get rejected by a few sellers before you find a really nice one for "only" $500.

A Cobra and a DS would make a very nice $1,000 investment. which, IMHO, is extremely probable to go up in value over time (nothing is certain in investing). Those are boexcellent carry pieces. (There is a Cobra with a factory installed hammer shroud, full of Hornady Critical Defense ammo in my pocket right now.)

You will not likely find a nice Python under $1,000 (unless is is a special deal, a friend or relative selling, for instance) - and you are likely to run into the Python Scam Man ( a fellow advertising inexpensive, high condition Pythons, but he does not deliver the revolver after getting paid).

You can find high condition Colt Officers Model Match extremely fine revolvers for under a grand, extremely high quality revolvers and real "sleepers" in the collector's markets; again just my opinion.

Reminds me of the old joke; If you had $500 in one pocket and $500 in the other pocket, what would you have? My answer: Someone else's pants on.

If a Python is what you're shooting for (pun intended) I believe I'd save the grand and put towards it each time I could. I'm also fond of trading. A $1000 plus a nice paid-for gun might entice a Python swap with the right person.

I'm gonna step out of line here. If I had $1K to spend (with no "earmarks") I would get another 1911 Colt. I am a revolver man at heart but do love the new Gold Cup I got in 2011. Will it increase in value? Prolly, but it is a pleasure to shoot (you do however, have to chase down your brass for reloading. Oh well............... If it is investment you are going for, save another $800 to $1000 and get a nice Python (I have one and will hold it till I'm 6' under, then it goes to my daughter). Yep, lots of conversation in this post.

All very good ideas...I have a colt 1911 and a double eagle .45; therefore, need a good colt DA revolver in my collection. It doesn't have to be a Python, but it'd be nice.
$1000 is the limit on this one as I hear we are in a recession

best quality available / dollar for dollar = Pre-War Officers Model .38

your $1000.00 dollars will still buy a lot of gun, with some change left over.

    Thumbs up

Keep your eyes peeled for a Three Fifty Seven or Trooper, you should be able to fine a good example of either of these fine DA Colts for <$1000.

Yeah the model 3 5 7 would be a good choice. I've noticed that the Trooper Mk III's have really started going up lately also. Find you a nice one still in the box. One with Coltguard finish would be even better. and you can still find them well under your $1000 limit. I found this 8 " barreled one last weekend for $600, but it didnt have the box. And then just 5 minutes later I ran across a guy with a 4" M357 for $500 and didnt have any money left on me to buy it!!
