    Do You Have Any "Firsts"?

After seeing the debate over at the S&W forums about the first Combat Magnum I've been wanting to ask this question over here.

Do you own or have you owned any "firsts"? Any "lasts"?

I know the first SAA is out there as I have seen pictures of it.

I would even open it up for single digit guns.

Not too long ago I bought Colt's first Officer's Commencement Issue pistol. It's pictured in R.L. Wilson's "Colt An American Legend". It was a display sample at Colt's and was made to commemorate graduation from either West Point or the US Naval Academy.

I own the fourth and final prototype of the S&W M629 7 1/2" MAGNA CLASSIC in SS. It was used as a display model at the SHOTSHOW the year it was introduced. To say it is accurate is the understatement of the new year. OH...they also gave me a little box of various front sights for the pistol, noting it was the first time anyone out of S&W had seen or received that set of sights. I was impressed with the sight set and am AMAZED, AMAZED I TELL YOU, that every S&W sixgun made since does not have that sight system and the set of different sight blades to go with it. WHAT were they thinking ??

I know what you mean. I have Centennial Airweight #3651. It sold in early 1954. No telling what year it was made, but production started 11/52. Anyway one looks at it, it's a very early one. I get a kick out of that.

I bought a collection from a retired S&W law enforcement salesman. The guns are special low serial #s all 0044 except for a 686 Custom Service prototype salesmans sample 3" that is absolutely unfired, not even the 3 shots from the factory. The box label is marked attention: Jerry S........ I forget. Here's a picture with an Arctic coated mod 29 and a switchblade naa that were not part of the deal.

Although this revolver has four digits, I believe it qualifies as a "single digit gun."

The total number of original Colt Walker revolvers made, both military and civilian, was 1100. When Colt reintroduced the Walker in their Second Generation lineup serial numbers began at 1200. This one is number 1203

I've thought about getting a letter on it. Maybe it went to a company executive, or perhaps held by Colt's for a time for "display purposes." Just haven't got around to spending the $100 or so on the letter.
