Oddly enough I found this today:

Surplusrifle Forum • View topic - Unfired 1913 Colt 1911 advertised for sale...wow.

    COPIED AS FOUND !

"I did not put this in the "Look what I found for sale forum" because I wasn't showing it off for someone to possibly buy, but as a discussion. If it should STILL be there, I apologize.

    On the local board:
    :

    Price : $10,000.00
Location : Port St. Lucie - Verify Location
    Ad Start : 3/28

I have a Colt 1911 manufature date 1913 US Army. Never fired, in mint condition, no scratches or dings. Serial #64XXX yes 5 digits. This is one of the find in a barn deals. Only serious inquiries. Has original clip never had a bullet in it. Appraised at over $13000. Asking $10,000 "

Huh! Sure sounds nice! Wish we could see some images of it...The Link no longer succeeds, so, might be too old a posting now for their server to have kept the data.

There was something along these lines on Auctionarms recently also...I will see if I can find it.

    Edited to add -

( This one has been on there a while now that I think of it, maybe a long while...)

Blue looks a little 'dark' to me for 1913, but, might just be the lighting...

Then again Colt went through some several Blueing kinds with the 1911, and I am more used to the Blue of my 1914 Commercial which is different than the Military finish I s'pose, so...dunno...

Far as 'early' 1911s go - one which got away and which has haunted me something terrible now for several years, was a period and thin, white frosty sort of un-molested ( and worn through on the high areas to dull brown Metal ) Nickel, Navy Model with a 3 digit serial Number, which I wanted SO bad, and I goofed up and missed the close of the auction, and the thing sold for a little over 800 dollars, on Auction Arms some four years ago or so.

I Love old OLD Nickle which has turned that thin frosty 'white', and this one was that way, as well as being a Navy Model...the Magazine it had was the KeyHole type, which possibly was a tad late for it but who cares...oh sigh, and golly...and it just hurts thinking about it! Lol...

well, don't feel too bad as i had a 3 digit 1911 that was rattly w/no finish left that i sold 30 years ago for $700 which was a small fortune back then, for a 1911.

God knows what it would now be worth.

Why do we press harder on the buttons of a remote control when we know the batteries are dead?
