    Colt Archive Auction Guns

We got an ice storm here last night and I decided to stay home and play. I was fiddling around with the Colt Archive gun sales spreadsheet and came up with some interesting observations.

There were about 1129 guns sold in the three Archive auctions. I say "about" because several were listed as "passed" in the final price realized lists. I presume that means they didn't get bids or did not sell for some other reason.

The highest priced gun was a Custom Shop Single Action Army that was factory engraved. It was lot 151 and was listed as "The last Colt handgun made in Hartford". It sold for $150,000.

The second highest priced gun was another Single Action Army, this one engraved by Howard Dove. It was lot number 531 and sold for $19,000.

The third and fourth highest dollar guns were both experimental Pythons in .22 Magnum. These were lots 1653 and 1668 and the prices were $14,000 and $17,000.

Nine of the top 14 guns were Pythons, two were Single Action Armys and the other two were 1861 Navy percussion revolvers in stainless steel. I think that says something about the popularity of the Python revolver these days.

In all, the three Archive auctions totaled about $1.5 million in sales. And that's the hammer prices, don't forget to add the "buyer's premium"!
