    The revolver is obsolete???

I have a friend who's about 38-39 years old. He's a former Ranger who has been playing video games since they first came out. He's definitely from a different generation. We go shooting, have some areas of collecting interest, etc. One day we were talking and I asked him if he had any revolvers. He said "Nope, revolvers are obsolete".

Today I was thumbing through the February edition of the American Rifleman. Under The Armed Citizen column I noticed 4 of 7 reported events concerned the armed citizen using a revolver to protect themselves from felons. One specified a .380. We don't know what type of firearms were used in the other two reports.

The revolver is obsolete? I don't think so.
It is for the military and I completely agree it should be, but for civilian use it is as fine a tool as the semi auto is.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of semi autos and a lot of revolvers. I like both systems.
I just don't buy the wheelgun should be relegated to period Hollywood movies.

Nor do I. What's not to like about: you load it, you pull the trigger, it ALWAYS goes bang and bang and bang, and so on? Really doesn't much matter what ammo you load it with, either. I've seen plenty of SAAs and Colt New Services and other wheelguns in Mexico that were loaded with "almost the right shells"--they would still kill you at "across the bodega" ranges. Can't begin to do that with a bottom feeder.

That said, I would rather have a GOOD automatic if I had to take on a bunch of people. Luckily civilians seldom have to.

Almost nobody that can handle a DA revolver with speedloaders will say it is obsolete. I'd hand him one and ask him to demonstrate why it's obselete. If he tries to cock it first, well, there's your answer.

The deadliest weapon you possess resides between your ears. Everything else is just technology. Use what you feel most competent with - a 625 with a bunch of loaded moons works well for me.

Mike, if I had no choice but to take on a bunch of people, I'd prefer a shotgun with an extended magazine - just sayin'.

He probably just assumes they are obsolete because He always used semi autos and sees mostly semi autos for sale and most younger people have semi autos? I dont know why anyone would think revolvers are obsolete. I dont know what a semi auto can do that a revolver cant do, other than hold more rounds.

I have to agree with you about a shotgun. One of the ultimate fight stoppers. At present I don't even own one
God forbid there is trouble here, I've got Gunny and a lot of rifles, aside from the handguns.

He is right the revolver is obsolete...BUT so are Semi Autos ever since they developed those darn Smart Bombs..Laser Guided Stuff. I would prefer to sit on the back porch with cocktail in hand and use a joy stick....

Could some one hand me my caps for my Mattel Fanner 50'S...Please ?

Is a Bow and Arrow 'obsolete'?

Is a sock in the Jaw 'obsolete'?

Is literally running away from a sudden, dangerous or bad situation 'obsolete'?

    Who cares!

They can and do work very very well, when used correctly.

Often, nothing else WOULD or WILL work as well.

    Lol...

I read in a gun magazine the following statement,"If you can't handle a defensive situation with 5 or 6 rounds of 38+P you don't need a semi -auto YOU NEED A SWAT TEAM."When I practice defensive drills where I fire 6,do a tactical reload, and fire another 6 I have had people say that they never thought you could use a revolver as a carry gun where there may be multiple threats but I showed them that the "Multiple Threats" would wind up neutralized.I just smile and say forget tap, rack, bang just remember boom, boom, boom.JMHO
