My son works in Afghanistan and just mentioned he's reading that book right now.
I bought "American Sniper" mainly because of a TV interview by O'Reilly with the author Chris Kyle, former Navy SEAL. A kind of autobio, SEAL training and thru Iraq and after, the different kinds of hell he lived thru - and loved it. A real gritty book making me retch, rejoice, applaud and cry, with appreciation and gratitude for our fighting men. Quite a bit of discussion of the types of rifles, opinions, performance, etc. of sending over 100 bad guys to their reward.
My twin Grandsons did 15 months in Iraq in U.S. Army helicopter units, scored high in physical challenges and weapons proficiency. One then deployed to Afghanistan, special training, jump qualified, etc. Unit's specialty was 'snatch & grab' night operations. Got injured in some kind of 'accident'. Enlistment up, now in school, doesn't talk much about specifics.
American Sniper gave me insights I had only suspected. If you have survived some of life's ups and downs, the book will bring you to tears now and then, as it did me.
