Let's see...Tulare, California 1952 and Mt. Wilson California 1957.

These were taken at Universal Studios in the summer of 1968 when I was eleven. Seeing the War Wagon inperson was great, but having these two stuntmen pull Colts on me was even better! That looks like an Andy Anderson rig that guy is wearing on the left. I remember him telling me he doubled for Michael J. Pollard in Bonnie And Clyde, and the other stood in for Richard Boone. We've all probably seen those two guns hundreds of times in various westerns over the years.

Mean look'n hombre. I'd side step'm.
Wyatt, I was a guard there in early 65. They were just starting tours there then. They would pull wagons around the lot with tractors with tourists. I have been back several times since and it was like disneyland compared to what it was.
Wow guys, I was but a mere gleam in dad's eye up until Nov 69, so I missed out on the 50's and 60's. Very cool pictures Wyatt and Kid. Height of the those movie westerns as I understand.
I love the old photos. Well, Twaits photos aren't that old. I also was eleven in 1968.
Old California was great!
* old being pre-1970

I got my fondness for cowboy pistols honest way too.
My dad circa late 40's and early 50's. He turned in his boots early in '96.

Great photos guys. It's too bad that cowboys and cowboy shows and films aren't much of the culture for kids today.
I recently looked for a set of toy metal, silver peacemakers for my 6 year old who has recently gotten into "Western stuff" after a trip to a local museum. Guess what? They don't seem to exist anymore. The best I could do was a cheesy pair of plastic, disproportioned sidearms that approximate a gun only in that they seem to have a "handle end" and a "barrel end". And did I mention that they are ORANGE?!? I'll have to post a pic. It's revolting and it made me quite sad and nostalgic for my old set of silver six-shooters from when I was his age. I'm sure it's because someone decided that it was best for kids to not have things that look like real guns. Oh the horror!!!!
Fortunately, as adults, we still have the option to trade them in for the real thing.
