    holstering your firearm

I was just sitting around and thinking,is there a proper way to holster your gun for concealed carry ? I know there are many places to put it like behind your back ,on your hip, ankle,or under your arm,but is there a proper side or is it a matter of comfort and accessability?I was watching Young guns this weekend and Billy the kid holstered 2 guns ,one on each side and it seems like the but ends were forward.Did he actually carry this way or is that Hollywood? That would seem cumbersome when drawing both guns at the same time since you would have to cross both arms to draw? Im going to watch again to see how he drew, but did William H bonney actually carry this way ?
So anyway,I have tried to carry on my hip with but forward on right side and but back on left as IM left handed primarily and dont know which I prefer, but it seems that my DS shows a bit more but forward than but aft.
Any thoughts from the forum?Happy holstering people...

I like to pocket-carry a Colt Cobra in my right front pocket, in a pocket holster, with nothing else in that pocket.

Alternatively, when I can wear a jacket for concealment, I like to carry a Colt Defender in a Di Santis 001-79 pancake belt holster, on my right hip at the 4 o'clock position, canted butt forward, on a stout leather belt. I am a righty.

You carry it wherever it's comfortable, accessible, and concealable, for YOU.

As for B the K, there's only one known photo of him in existance, wearing a single handgun in a conventional grip-to-the-rear strongside position.
I'm not aware of any documentation that he ever wore two handguns, but it's certainly possible.
Doubt it would have been a grip-to-the-front configuration if he did.

When I do carry a handgun Im usually in the woods somewhere. I usually either put it in a jacket pocket or in a shoulder holster. I like shoulder holsters because they dont tend to pull my pants down and with a good shoulder holster I can hike up and down mountains with no problem and after awhile I forget i even have it on.

Anything you saw in a Hollywood film was strictly "Hollywood".

Anymore, or when it is generally cool enough for a Sweatshirt or Sweater which can be kept pulled down over, it is either of these...and, IWB 1:30-ish

Summer, it is back to Pocket Carry with a Bobbed 'Snubby' of one sort or another.

    IMHO--
Carry it where your comfortable, carry it in the same place all the time, and practice(train) to draw it while in a non- stressed condition until you can draw it in your sleep. TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN-

IF YOUR ONE TO CHANGE GUNS DEPENDING ON YOUR MOOD- TRAIN WITH EVERY GUN YOU CARRY- DID I MENTION TRAINING AND PRACTICE WILL BUILD MUSCLE MEMORY- THEN YOU'RE ONLY HURDLE IS "STRESS INOCULATION" AND THE LAWSUITS.

Do not cheap out on the holster that you do choose, the right holster makes a world of differance.
I am a lefty also, when at work I carry a 3913 in a OWB Fobus paddle hoster on the strongside (9 o clock). I leave it in my toolbox while working.
When out with out the work clothes, I carry my 642 in a OWB leather holster on a heavy duty gun belt. Again on my strong side.

My 642 holster is by Wild Bill's Concealment. It does not have a retention strap, but I can run and play with dogs with out it moving or falling out.

Tip of the Day: Be careful of following the masses - because when you remove the "m", who exactly are you following?
