    Polymer 1911?

Considering the source, this may be old news to some but it was new to me. It seems the 1911 design is being invaded by the Tupperware lovers...John Browning would roll over in his grave...

STI has been making a polymer frame 1911 style gun about 10 years. There are other mfg. as well.

Well, it should be pretty light and make it easy to carry. I wonder about recoil?? It still looks better then some of the polymer framed guns!!

I own several polymer framed 1911 style guns (mostly with high capacity configuration) from STI or SVI and shot them all in various pistol competitions over the last 12 years or so. My .40 caliber SVI has had thousands of rounds through it, all USPSA "major" caliber loads and it still functions perfectly. In all the years I have been shooting it, the only problem I ever had was a broken extractor. I replaced it with a new stock part and it's still running smoothly. No other parts have been replaced, including springs. I also have a .38 Super STI which I use with USPSA "major" caliber loads (much hotter than you would want to use in a Colt or Kimber or similar) and it is probably the most accurate semi-auto I have ever owned.
I don't think John Browning would have taken exception with these guns. They may not be as pretty as polished blued steel and checkered walnut, but they perform their function extremely well and that is what he designed his guns to do.
