    Revolver Not Shooting Accurately?

Just bought one of these old Taurus 82 LEO imports and shot it for the first time yesterday.

Single action is as good as any Smith I've ever shot, double action was smooth, but rather short.

Even when firing it single action it grouped high/right by about 3"-4" at 25 yds.

So, I shot it at 15yds with the same results.

Fixed front blade, notched frame rear.

Apart from the nut behind the grip, what would cause a pistol to shoot like that?

Has the front sight been alterred? i.e. filed down? The right to left thing can be adjusted by rotating the barrel slightly clockwise to bring the bullet impact over left. A competent gunsmith could weld up your front sight to make it higher which would bring the point of impact down. I have a beautiful custom shop 5 1/2" SAA .38-40 that shot about 6 inches high when I got it. I adjusted handloads by increasing the velocity and I got the point of impact down to about 2 inches high. Reasoning is that if the bullet is in the barrel for less time then the upward recoil has less of an affect on bullet point if impact. Ideally I should send it back to Colt for a new front sight but I can live with 2 inches. I have also read but I can't cite the source that if you are right or lefthanded the rotation of the rifling will cause bullet impact to go high and right depending on your grip. Good Luck !

    Thanks for the info.

    The sight hasn't been altered.

And I was shooting 158 grain, standard pressure loads.

A tiny dab of JB weld worked good for me on my colt agent that shot high. I cleaned the top of the front sight and roughened it slightly with very fine sandpaper, then cleaned again so no trace of oil on it. put the dab of "weld" (which is basically epoxy) and shaped it with the end of a toothpick. when it dried, it held fast just fine. I then test shot it and had to file down a wee bit the top of the weld When it shot where I wanted it ,I tested it again with all 6 shots. Then I put a tiny dab of testers black paint on it and that was it.
The gun shooting to the right is a bigger problem -the sight doesnt look like it sticks up enough to bend sideways with any tool -not flexible enough-would probably break,or it would just get marred up trying. turning the barrel and recutting the forcing cone ,etc. is too much for me to try so You may wantto send it to a smith or back to taurus.
    good luck

I see you were using 158 grain bullets. Also,Try 125 gran bullets -it should shoot lower with 125 grain
