Welcome Smokehaus from North Carolina. There are experts on the forum here that will correct me if I am in error, but I remember from The Wilkerson's book on Scouts, Peacemakers, and New Frontiers that there are Peacemakers and New Frontiers that were shipped with just the 22LR cylinder. If your New Frontier is of the 22LR only type, you don't want to shoot magnums in it. If you know that and are aware of that, Please disregard of course. If not, we can help you determine if your New Frontier is of the dual cylinder version and the Magnum cylinder has gone missing, or its of the 22LR type in the case you want to stick with the one cylinder I believe. Buckspen and several other forum members will get us straight if I have told you wrong. The barrel is the issue of course. Colt made barrels that could shoot both cylinders, and some were just 22LR. The barrel for 22magnum will have a crowned muzzle (kind of rounded off) and the 22LR only usually has a uncrowned barrel, which will look basically flat and even at end of the barrel. Also, the barrel is labeled as such where the "both" barrel will say .22cal and the "only" barrel will say .22LR. If you are not sure, then post some pics and we will help. If you already know this, well sorry for the wordy welcome. The magnum cylinders do come up on the auction sites occasionally. I say around $100 bucks.. could be more if everybody wants it at the same time.

Can't comment on the Numrich cyl's. I do know if your NF has a flat muzzle as opposed to a crowned one you should stop looking. The bores on the flat type are slightly undersized for jacketed .22 mag ammo and are problematic. I ran into the same situation with mine ser. G201xxx from 82. Welcome to the forum and good luck!

The .22 magnum cylinders that appear on the auction sites are probably the same as the one that Gun Parts Corp sells:
Numrich Gun Parts Corp. - The World's Largest Supplier of Firearms Parts and Accessories

    Sold out at the moment.

Smokehaus says his gun has serial number G60xxx which puts it's date of manufacture at 1972. All the Peacemaker .22 and New Frontier .22 revolvers made in the 1970's are capable of using the .22 Magnum cartridge safely.
The other queston is whether the gun was originally shipped with the Magnum cylinder. If the original box is present, the model code number will clear this up (see Don Wilkerson's book on the Colt .22 single actions). If no box is present, the only way to tell is to get a Archive letter from Colt.
Personally, I would not buy ANY gun parts from Numrich unless I absolutely had to. I have had several bad experiences with them.
Surprisingly, there have been a number of Colt .22 cylinders (and other interesting parts) listed and sold on eBay recently. I thought that eBay had banned certain parts (barrels, cylinders, firing pins, triggers and hammers, etc.) but maybe that has changed.

thanks Buckspen for clearing that up. I knew from Wilkerson's book at a glance that there were Peacemakers and New Frontiers that shipped with only one cylinder and some with both. I did not know they all could use the magnum cylinder .. unlike Scouts. I do believe there is a magnum cylinder up for bid on GunBroker right now.
