Is there a how to on selling firearms on the internet?

I am looking to sell a Ruger Blackhawk 45lc 4 inch an not sure how to go about it. I bought the gun new in 81 and the offers I've had on the west side of Phoenix, AZ have only been $25 more than I paid back then! The reciet that is still in the box says I paid $225 for it.

I never use it, I still have the original box of ammo I got with it, and it still half full. I want to puchase something I'll use more, hopefully a Colt, and getting rid of something I don't use seems like the best way to do it.

Was hoping to find a thread here that covered this but my search turned up nothing. I know from more than a year on this forum that a lot of you do sell on the internet and might be point me in the right direction.

    Thanks and God Bless
    Daryl

daryl, we have a for sale section here on this forum. why not advertise it here?
figure out what you want for it, you need to post an asking price.
take and post some good photos of it.
and include an accurate description of it's condition and what all is included with it.
and if reasonable you should be able to sell it here. i'm sure that you can get more than what you've been offered so far.

You can always try the Classifieds section like ACE mentioned or sell yourself on one of the sites (Gunbroker). Also, dealers like me accept trades and consignments. If you shipped the gun to me, I would market it on a national level and get as much money out of it as I could. Just a few options.

Hi Vaquero. No doubt the gun is worth twice, at least, what your offers have been if its in like-new condition. Looking at blue book of gun values, I would have to know the particulars on the gun, year make, etc. but looks like it should be in the 450 to 500 range. If its a Flattop model then its worth more. I would do some gunbroker searches and see what they are selling for too. That's gonna tell you what you can reasonably expect to get for it. Selling online is not too difficult. Once you read up on how to list it correctly and eventually sell it, you will need to send it to an FFL dealer for the buyer to pick up and fill out the paperwork for the gun. First thing is to get good pictures. Good pictures sell guns.. and sell guns faster. bad pictures (out of focus and dark) let you keep your gun longer and longer until someone eventually asks for more pictures.

I'm in agreement with everyone above, pricing included. My only advice would be two-fold; describe the gun to be sold as accurately and thoroughly as possible and take many solid photos; keep any blurry photos out of the ad.

Common New Model Rugers do not have much resale value. While yours is in outstanding condition, the market for it is as a shooter to most. While it should be worth more than $250, it may not be worth much more. However, all it takes is for two people to like your listing and the sale price can exceed market value. As stated, good pictures and lots of them are the key. Add clear terms and a reasonable charge for shipping and see what you get. Good luck.
