A 'Sticky' Thread for who we can recomend for Gunsmithing and other services

I think it would be useful to have a 'sticky' Thread somewhere, for us to mention Gunsmiths whom we can recommend or offer cautions about, for specific Services, and also for instances where we can recommend or offer Testimonies for other Firearms related Services, like Stock repair or refurbishing and getting things re-Blued or Nickeled or whatever else.

What do you all think about this?

Would it be handy to have?

Would be great to know where good Colt smith's are near your area. I know none where I live (Western New York State). Excellent idea!

This would be good. But in the past I had highly recommended Heffron Firearms. He had done some work for me and it was very good. Great communication and fast turn around.................... Then it went down hill fast !!! From what I've been reading he is definatly having problems and I feel kind of bad for recommending him. (I personally have no complaints with him). But we could also bring people up to date if such problems occur with GunSmiths listed.

Mario Matelli at www.bullseyefirearms-il.com is in Crystal Lake, Illinois and he performed mighty fine work on my Custom Fitz Special. He can cut and recrown the barrel, re-attach a front sight, bob a hammer, Fitz a trigger guard, and do an action job on double action Colts.

Michael Gouse at www.mtart.com does excellent engraving at reasonable prices as he did the work on my Fitz'ed Official Police.

www.saquaroleather.com made me the custom holster to fit my Fitz'ed .38 and I think it's gorgeous. One week to make the holster and ship it too!

You really can't beat Patrick (Executioner) Grashorn's American Elk Stag handles either at www.grashornsgunworks.com

I think this thread should be the Sticky!

For any of us in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, I would recommend Mr. Norman Weaver in Bloomfield, MO, about an hour west of Cape Girardeau on Highway 25. I use him for everything. He has fixed everything from my great-great grandfather's 12ga St. Louis Arms SxS to an Astra 400 to an SAA. If he doesn't have a part or can't find it, he can make it. He will also work on Colt Model 1877s and 1878s. He also reloads just about any caliber for a flat rate, cheaper than buying from most places. Last time I checked I think it was .60 cents/round. He has a really nice load for my .455 New Service. The only drawback is that he's getting older and doesn't take shipments any more. You have to take it to him, so he is a local gunsmith only.

I was asking to see if there is anough interest to have a 'Sticky' Thread which is strictly about who does what for Gunsmithing, especially for Colts of course.

Since otherwise, all these sort of mentions just slide down the memory hole and become lost, and or, keep being asked again with no real way to ever search for previous recommendations/testimonies.

Ideally, we would have two Sticky Threads -

One, which is for our recommendations about who does what for Gunsmithing or related.

Two, a 'Hall of Shame' or the likes, for instances and testimonials of disappointment, rip off, bait-n-switch, bad work, bad attitude, or other 'do not recommend' kinds of advisements.

I can vouch for Michael Gouse, and can say I've been happy with Cylinder & Slide's work on a couple Pythons, an Interarms PPK, and a couple High Standards. I think a permanent thread on the topic is definitely worth having.
