What model is this? Bonus points, what caliber? A prize of bragging rights will be awarded Along with the photo the first clue will be...although not a Colt product, there is a Colt connection. John Gross

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!! Way to go dude, and with so little to go on

Pictured below is the full view of the revolver. It was loaded/unloaded by depressing the latch on the right side of the recoil shield, which allowed the barrel and cylinder to swing slightly to the side (as shown in my first photo). The ejector rod under the barrel was then removed to punch out the fired cases, and fresh cartridges inserted from the rear.

Since the bored through cylinder infringed on S&W's patent, S&W sued and won the case. Thus many of the later Moore revolvers will be found stamped "MADE FOR SMITH & WESSON."

And the Colt connection? The bored through cylinder was the idea of Rollin White while he was working for Colt, and I'm pretty sure that he made his model revolver while at Colt. He offered his idea/patent to Colt, but Sammy was not interested

Interesting! At first I thought Moore was wrong because the only Moore I am familiar with is the teatfire revolver. Was this the same guy that made the teatfires?

Since you mentioned it, this one is inscribed to a Union officer (Elwell Stephen Otis), presented to him in September of 1862. He served 40 years, from 1862-1902, rising to the rank of major general.

That engraving is beautiful. My SIL's dad had a giant fireplace with the bricks covered in guns. I spotted a Moore there. Not like this one, though. It sure looks a lot like an experimental Colt, Moore or less.
