    Hello from Dayton Ohio :)

Hello from Ohio, I am a long time shooter, semi collector and ccw holder and lover of fine 1911's, & just about any kind of quality built pistol or rifle and just picked up my first colt a 1977 satin nickel combat commander 70 series so thought this would be a great place to learn about it

Todd, Welcome to the forum. Being from the Dayton area, Do you ever run into any John Oberlies related items.-- He was a well known Custom Gunsmith from Dayton, OH.. I have a Shooting Master lettered to him, & I am trying to put together a display.

I have heard of him, I believe he built custom rifles ? I have'nt seen any of his work first hand but have heard his name mentioned at a couple of my local shops, What do you have that he built ?

Yes, He was known for custom target rifles, From what I can tell, Very Expensive Ones, I have a Bone Stock .38 Shooting Master, I don't know if it was his personal gun, or he may have had a small retail operation, But that is unlikely, as the gun was "Shipped" to Shapleigh Hardware in St. Louis, & "Sold" to John Oberlies, Dayton, Ohio---

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit such crimes... such laws make things worse for the assualted and better for the assailants: they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man" Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria NRA Life Member
