Welcome from Racine Wi.
I just found this forum and decided to join. I recently purchased a 6 inch MKIII Trooper and enjoy firing it. I purchased Vol 1 and 2 of Jerry Kuhnhausen's repair manuals and find them very interesting reading. It is a high mileage gun with a couple of lock issues and I am contemplating having the local smith look at Troopy. The finish is very nice on troopy so that is a +. I'll search forums to discuss the problems. I'v got about $350.00 in Troopy so it is not the end of the world. I may send it in to Colt, I'll talk to them after the holiday. I bought the Trooper cause I wanted a 6 inch gun after firing a nice 4 inch gun.
The nice 4 inch gun is a nickel Python my father bought and never fired. He never fired it because it intimidated him. I may load some light loads for him to shoot through the snake. I never gave wheel guns a second look cause I have the semi auto bug. I tell Ya after firing the Snake and how even in double action it prints on target I love shooting the snake!!! I know it was a collectors item but I don't care, It is total pleasure running rounds through the Snake. I will be looking for more Pythons at good deals even if I have to save up some change. I don't care, if another python comes my way, it goes to the range! I rambled on this long so I will discuss Troopy's issues.
The cylinder may not register to the next chamber on double action and the trigger may not rebound to forward after firing. I have run many snap cap firings through Troopy and about 36 live rounds. This set of problems exacerbated after I used birchwood casey synthetic oil with PTFE out of the spray can- a few drops at a time, not a drenching spray. i installed a few drops on the crane-cylinder interface and that took care of the squeak.
I spritzed the drops in front of the trigger , in back of the trigger and through the bolt window, each side of the hammer in front of the hammer at full cock and behind the hammer at fire. Cocking the Hammer wont spin the cylinder. I'm guessing the synthetic oil is not good and it loosened a whole lot of crud in the action and now there is floating junk sticking up the mechanism.![]()

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit such crimes... such laws make things worse for the assualted and better for the assailants: they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man" Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare BeccariaNRA Life Member
Welcome. A good blast of "Gunscrubber" might help if your gun is gunked up. Use the stuff outside if you do. It's quite aromatic and I can't stand the smell. But it works wonders for guns with much old oil and crud in the action.
